World Hepatitis Day 2025 was marked with a powerful call to action: early detection, prevention, and education about Hepatitis B virus (HBV). To commemorate the event, held globally on 28th July 2025, The GeneLab Bioscience Limited in collaboration with Emzor Vaccines organized a Hepatitis B Awareness Road Walk in Yaba, Lagos, providing free Hepatitis B screening and health education to the community.
Raising Awareness About Hepatitis B in Lagos
In collaboration with Emzor Vaccines, the outreach aimed to:
- Educate the public about the dangers of untreated Hepatitis B infection
- Promote early detection to prevent chronic liver disease and liver cancer
- Encourage vaccination and safe practices to stop HBV transmission
Hepatitis B is a serious liver infection that can become chronic, leading to cirrhosis or liver cancer if left untreated. Early testing and vaccination are the most effective tools to fight this preventable disease.
The Awareness Walk in Yaba
The awareness rally began at 4:30 PM, with an opening speech from Chairperson Modupe Arotiba, who welcomed participants and explained the event’s purpose and route. She urged everyone to distribute flyers and engage with community members to spread accurate information about Hepatitis B prevention.
The walk followed the route: Aje Road → Adekunle Roundabout → Sabo → back to Aje Road, accompanied by music and a public address system. Participants educated passers-by and invited them for free HBV screenings at The GeneLab Bioscience Limited.
The two-hour rally ended with refreshments and closing remarks, thanking all attendees and inviting them for the free screening event scheduled for the next day.
Free Hepatitis B Screening
On Tuesday, 29th July, canopies and seating were set up to ensure comfort and privacy. Soft background music created a welcoming atmosphere as beneficiaries were warmly received.
