Advancing Scientific Innovation in Africa.
We connect researchers, healthcare professionals and institutions with genomic technologies and laboratory solutions. In line with this, we participated in the two-day African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO) Symposium, held at the College of Health Sciences Auditorium, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
The symposium, themed “New Frontiers in Cancer Care: Leveraging AI, Precision Medicine and Innovative Research in Africa,” brought together researchers, clinicians, academics and students to explore emerging developments in oncology, precision medicine and biomedical research across the continent.
Our participation provided an opportunity to engage with the scientific community, showcase the technologies we represent and strengthen connections with professionals working to advance research and healthcare in Africa.
Showcasing Nanopore Technologies.
Representing Oxford Nanopore Technologies, we showcased sequencing devices, kits and flow cells designed to support genomic and molecular research. Depending on the platform and workflow, nanopore sequencing enables real-time data generation and the analysis of long DNA or RNA fragments. These capabilities have applications across various fields, including genomic research, infectious disease investigations, cancer genomics and metagenomic analysis.
Genomic technologies help researchers investigate genetic variation and better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying diseases. In oncology, these insights can contribute to cancer research, biomarker discovery and the advancement of precision medicine approaches.
Esco Lifesciences: Promoting Laboratory Safety and Efficiency.
We also showcased laboratory equipment from Esco Lifesciences. Among the products that attracted interest were biosafety cabinets and laboratory refrigeration equipment, both of which play important roles in modern laboratory environments, including the safe handling of biological materials and the ultra-low-temperature storage of tumour tissue, plasma and nucleic acids.
Biosafety cabinets provide controlled workspaces for procedures involving biological materials. Depending on their classification and design, they help protect laboratory personnel, samples and the surrounding environment through controlled airflow and filtration.
Laboratory refrigeration equipment maintains appropriate storage temperatures for biological samples, reagents and other temperature-sensitive materials, helping preserve their integrity for research and diagnostic applications.
