Modupe Arotiba is a biomedical scientist who specializes in research across neurobiology, oncology, genomics, and bioinformatics. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biochemistry, with a focus on Biotechnology and Molecular Biology.
During the third wave of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, Modupe had the opportunity to work at the Lagos State Biobank, where she isolated and grew the virus for research purposes. She also conducted research to identify potential antimicrobial resistance genes present in pathogens isolated from fish samples collected from markets across Lagos State, using both microbial and molecular biology techniques, such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.
At the LUTH Chevron Molecular Biology Research Lab, Modupe honed her skills in proteomics and tissue culture techniques, working with various cell lines, including MCF7, SHSY5Y, HeLa, Vero, Vero E6, and K562. Currently, Modupe is the Head of the Molecular Biology Unit at The Genelab Bioscience, where she focuses on applying her expertise in genomics to cancer research and other common and prevalent diseases in Nigeria.
