Amoo Esther A. holds a Aaster’s Degree in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s Degree in Pure and Applied Biology, majoring in Microbiology. Currently, she is a Technical Sales Specialist for the Oxford Nanopore Technology portfolio at GeneLab Bioscience. Prior to this role, she worked as a research scientist at one of Nigeria’s leading medical research institutes and served as a project manager for the Population Genomics and Cancer research group.
Her research primarily focuses on genomics, with a specific interest in early disease detection and assessing an individual’s risk of developing diseases using genomic tools and molecular approaches. She is an expert in Sanger sequencing methods and was among the first trained in using Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) for sequencing COVID-19 in 2021. After the pandemic, she furthered her training in Oxford Nanopore Technologies and has independently applied the technology for sequencing other pathogens, including Hepatitis B, and for genotyping HLA A and HLA B, as well as in metagenomic studies.
As a Technical Sales Specialist, Esther’s primary responsibilities include providing technical support to clients and promoting ONT products across five West African countries: Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso.
